An update from Hugo

Last week, we heard from Lesly about her internship beginning and how she is preparing for her Alaska adventure. Our California intern, Hugo, has recently started in Monterey, CA and has an exciting update on how his internship is turning out!

Hugo: This weekend I started my internship by attending a naturalist training course offered by the Elkhorn Slough National Research Reserve (ESNRR). The course is offered to individuals who want to form a long-term commitment and learn more about the ESNRR. During my first day of training I had the opportunity to learn about the geology surrounding the Elkhorn Slough. This was interesting because I had the opportunity to study the site in detail. I also had the opportunity to work closely with other staff regarding stewardship and different habitats within the slough. It was also a great opportunity to work with other volunteers who have the same passion for the outdoors. Overall, the day was full of rich information and it gave me a chance to get to know some of the staff that I will be working with. It was also a great opportunity to talk with Dave Feliz and Amanda Ankenbrandt about future events that I can participate in that can help me better understand the work that Elkhorn Slough NRR strives for. I look forward to sharing this knowledge with the Latino community that is not aware of the different habitats and the animals that surround the Monterey area.
